OUR HISTORY
Welcome to Bethel Baptist Church of Watkinsville, Georgia! Our history is deeply rooted in our community, and we have been serving the people of Watkinsville for decades. We have a rich heritage of faith, love, and service, and we continue to build upon this strong foundation. Our legacy began in 1881, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. C. H. S. Lyons Sr.
The church was originally named Bethel Colored Missionary Baptist Church. As time went by, the "Colored and Missionary" were dropped. Through the years, Pastors that served at Bethel were: Rev. A. J. Stoval, Rev. J. H. Brown, Rev. W. G. Norlick, Rev. B. B. Dunn, Rev. Appleby, Rev. R. G. Cash, Rev. G. L. Allen, Rev. Edjar J. Hardy (Serving 43 years), Rev. Samuel Pridgon, Rev. Gazzara Mitchell, Rev. Kevin J. Daniel, and currently, Rev. Courtney E. D. Bryan.
